Pity for Emily   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the short story A Rose for Emily, by William Faulkner there is a very interesting character. Her Name is Emily Grierson and she is a rich southern gentile. All her life it seems that she was raised at a standard that was above the rest. By living such a secluded and controlled life it set her up for the happenings in her future.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  When her father passed away she had nobody to tell her what to do and how to act. This was very devastating and she had a hard time dealing with change. So much so that she wouldn't let the police take the body of her father out of the house for three days after his death. The only thing that was constant in her house was the slave that was bound to serve her.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In this writing I feel that the author takes an outside look at Emily to let you make your own decisions about her. This is a very good way of doing it because it leaves you with an open-ended judgment. You may feel a variety of ways about her, the first being that she is completely psychotic. This is the first and easiest conclusion to come up with. If you weren’t reading with much thought and analyzing the character it would be easy to feel this way. The second emotion is the strongest I feel about her, this would be pity for her. Fall seven times get up eight is an old proverb my grandma and mom use to tell me. Hello, my name is Nicole and I would like to tell you some details about myself. First of all I would like to start with my family. I have a brother (age 9) and a sister (age 12). My parents were in the middle of getting a divorce right around the time when my dad passed away. I consider my mom one of my best friends and she is one of the few people I can go to whenever I need advice. I have not lived with them since my senior year in high school because of some family issues. I moved around a lot my senior year and the dorm is the most stable place I have at the moment. My mom, my sister and I have a lot in common especially when it comes to hobbies. We all three enjoy to read outdoors and helping others whenever we have the chance. I love anything that deals with music. I sometimes feel like I wouldn’t be able to live without it. I like singing, dancing, and playing the piano and saxophone. I have played each of those since around the age of eleven. I also enjoy spending time with my boyfriend and friends any chance I get. At times they are all I have to make me feel wanted. After my dad passed I have depended a lot on them. My friends and boyfriend will always be important to me because I believe that my dad should have known who I will marry, who I hang out with, and what I want to do. I told him before he passed that I wanted to be a nurse, and because of that, I am determined to succeed and be a nurse so I will not let him down. To be honest I am really scared I will fail, But then I remember the old Japanese proverb my grandma and my mom would always tell me, and I have enough courage to keep going no matter how many times I make a mistake. The Honor Tug of War In The First Part of King Henry IV, Shakespeare integrates the concept of honor throughout the whole play. Honor is often thought of as a symbol that signifies approval or distinction, but it is how one embodies this honor that varies in the play. Certain characters are so fixated with honor that they forget about the other aspects of their life, in direct contrast other characters have no belief in honor and only care about self-preservation. Shakespeare uses characters like this to illustrate how the positive traits can be contained in one man who embodies the truest form of honor, this being Prince Hal. By comparing Hotspur and Falstaff’s opposing views of honor, Shakespeare exposes that the Prince has the beneficial traits of the two, therefore making him the symbol of rational and noble honor. The ballad â€Å"A lamentable Ditty composed upon the Death of Robert Lord Devereux, late Earle of Essex, who was be-headed in the Tower of London, on Ashwenes day in the morning, 1600.To the tune of Welladay† illustrates how honor was viewed in the Renaissance through the story telling of a recently passed on Lord.
